An increasing number of deadly and high profile accidents involving
senior drivers in Massachusetts is fueling legislation on Beacon Hill.
The proposed Senate Bill would require that people over 85 renew their
license, and pass a vision and road test, every five years.
Within the single month of June 2009, a 73-year-old driver ran into a
group of parade spectators in Plymouth, a 93-year-old driver plowed into
the front entrance of a Danvers Wal-Mart, an 84-year-old driver crashed
into a storefront in Somerset, an 88-year-old driver struck and killed a
4-year-old girl in Stoughton, and an 86-year-old driver struck and
severely injured an elderly pedestrian on Main Street in Melrose.

Boston's Talk Evolution, 96.9 FM WTKK, is encouraging Massachusetts
residents to support bill S. 1929, the Act to Promote Safe Driving. We
are asking anyone who lives in the Commonwealth and who cares about the
safety of our senior citizens to show their support for the safe driving
act by signing our petition. After collecting signatures of support,
we'll present them to Senator Brian A. Joyce, who has proposed this
important legislation.
Ensure that Massachusetts driver's licenses are renewed only for those
capable of driving safely.
